Not Just Colleagues-They're Family

Our colleagues from Possabilities’ employment program have become part of our work family. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to deliver the quality of care at the speed necessary.

We see over a quarter million cases a year, some of the most challenging cases in the world. These specimens are passed with our division and throughout the enterprise between over 100 pathologists and over a dozen labs. The movement of specimens is extremely important as we coalesce multiple expert opinions to formulate a pathology report that dictates patent care for years, and sometimes for the family.

We rely on our Possabilities colleagues to move the material efficiently, safely, without disruption to other activities. And they do that seamlessly. They are committed and deliver high-quality services with a warm smile and friendly disputation every day.

With meetings back to back, whizzing from floor to floor and from one end of the floor to the other, our conversations are a day brightener. Whether it be with Tessa about her artwork, her favorite Thanksgiving dessert-pumpkin-pie-or the shared love of the Chicago Cubs. The banter between fans of the Green Bay Parkers and Chicago Bears is always fun. Kammie with her love for cats and John with his love for bicycles.

John built a large fan club in the division. People embrace his reliability and respect when he courses the halls. When his bike was stolen, people were really upset. There was a call to arms and within a week we had enough money to pay for a new and better bike for him. It was at that point that we learned how many friends John has earned in the last couple of years.

These colleagues could easily execute the work they do and be invisible, but they’re not. They are part of the fabric of Anatomic Pathology, and you’ll hear people talk about what someone from the Possabilities team told them on the elevator or in the hallway. That is one of the unspoken benefits of working Possabilities that none of us saw coming.
