Food service tasks that could be
jobs for people with development disabilities:
Dishwashing
Simple food preparation
Vacuuming
Rolling silverware
Pots and pan washing
Bussing tables
Restroom cleaning
Clerking
All of the above are tasks that people with disabilities have
performed on jobs. There are many other tasks that can be matched
to an individual’s skill and interest. It just takes a
little creativity to see the possibilities.
Workers with disabilities may be paid by their productivity.
Standards are based on performance of an average experienced
worker. The performance of the worker with a disability is
compared to that standard and the worker may be paid accordingly.
This is an ongoing process reviewed at least every six months and
when new tasks are added to ensure that the worker is paid
equitably.
There were often no formally posted job openings for these
positions. With people from PossAbilities of Southern Minnesota
doing simple repetitive tasks, more highly skilled co-workers are
free to do their more complex work.
