Employment Services - Clerical
Clerical tasks that could be jobs for people with developmental disabilities:

Mail sorting, pickup and delivery Decollating and sorting manuals
Collating, stuffing, assembling Preparing mailings
Destapling-document preparation for microfilming Stapling, stamping
Opening mail Filing
Operating copy machines Sorting
Monitoring fax machines, sending and delivery Shredding confidential documents
Maintaining training and conference rooms Breakroom cleaning
Vending maintenance Delivering office supplies
Microfilming "Candling" envelopes
Simple data entry

All of the above are tasks that people with disabilities have performed on jobs. There are many other tasks that can be matched to an individual’s skill and interest.  It just takes a little creativity to see the possibilities.

Workers with disabilities may be paid by their productivity. Standards are based on performance of an average experienced worker.

The performance of the worker with a disability is compared to that standard and the worker may be paid accordingly. This is an ongoing process reviewed at least every six months and when new tasks are added to ensure that the worker is paid equitably.

There were often no formally posted job openings for these positions. With people from PossAbilities of Southern Minnesota doing simple, repetitive tasks, more highly skilled co-workers are free to do their more complex work.

These are some of our services to employers:

A public utility company has us assemble welcome folders. We also open and sort checks and invoices to prepare them for accounting machines. This enables accountants and staff to complete many other tasks.

A sanitation service has our people come in every day to put together invoices and open and sort bills.

We do data entry for a  government program and a private flooring business.

A local government agency employs us to pick up and sort mail, photocopy, deliver, assemble mailings and use fax machines.

A large regional bank has us assemble a variety of custom made packets for new customers in southwestern Minnesota.

Dozens of local companies use us to assemble materials for bulk mailings including: collating, labeling, folding and inserting.  We also serve as an on-call service bureau for local companies needing periodic assistance with paperwork.

We have assembled training and workshop folders for several local businesses.

A United Way agency has employed us to do a variety of office clerical work.

Many local businesses use us for their confidential shredding needs including: banks, financial planners, several accounting and legal firms.
