Employment Services - Assembly

Assembly Tasks that could be jobs for people with developmental disabilities:

  • Assembly
  • Packaging
  • Refurbishing
  • Heat sealing
  • Box making
  • Stitching
  • Preparing mailings
  • Bagging
  • Kit assembly
  • Collating
  • Disassembly
  • Sub-assembly
  • Shredding
  • Labeling
  • Piecework
  • Sorting

All of the above are tasks that people with disabilities have performed on jobs. There are many other tasks that can be matched to an individual’s skill and interest. It just takes a little creativity to see the possibilities.

Workers with disabilities may be paid by their productivity. Standards are based on performance of an average experienced worker. The performance of the worker with a disability is compared to that standard and the worker may be paid accordingly.

This is an ongoing process reviewed at least every six months and when new tasks are added to ensure that the worker is paid equitably.

There were often no formally posted job openings for these positions. With people from PossAbilities of Southern Minnesota doing simple repetitive tasks, more highly skilled co-workers are free to do their more complex work.

These are some of our services to employers:

  • A local supply company employs us to package plastic silverware bags and heat seal them.
  • We count, sort and bag colored fuses for a national electric supplier.
  • Videos and packaging are prepared for resale and shrink wrapped for a wholesale video distributor.
  • At utility company we assemble welcome folders and open and sort checks and invoices.
  • A retirement community has our company fold cloth napkins for dining room tables.
  • A regional bank has us assemble a variety of custom made packets for new customers in southeastern Minnesota.
  • We assemble pizza delivery boxes for two local pizza delivery businesses.
  • Many local companies use us to assemble mailings for bulk mailings including: collating, labeling, folding and inserting.
  • We package gift boxes of meats for a retail meat store.
